It is often thought that it was the Edinburgh weather that drove RLS away but it was more the fault line caused by his double life where ‘velvet jacket’, as he was known, inhabited not only the smart Drawing Rooms of the New Town but the brothels and opium dens of Leith Walk.

Teaching Fellow at University of Edinburgh specialising in Scottish Literature, especially Poetry. Involved in many literary organisations: Chair of Poetry Association of Scotland, Board member of Scottish PE , President of Friends of Edinburgh University Library ,Patron of the Scottish Tagore Institute, Member of Muriel Spark Society Committee ,Chair of SAC Theatre Awards - and erstwhile poet.
