Speaker: Elaine Henderson
Members: free | Guests: £5.00.
Elaine Henderson is a new member who has joined recently after moving to the Borders from
Orkney. After retiring from a professional career in music teaching, she re-trained in ceramics and
with an Honours degree from Glasgow School of Art set up her own studio and gallery. She has
since published a book on her work, Singing Stones, held annual exhibitions, instigated and
directed the Orkney Craft Festival, won a commission to design the New Music Scotland Awards,
been mentioned in the Scottish Parliament in connection with teaching and autism, and taught
aboard a world cruise ship. She is now in the process of establishing a practice in her new home
and is keen to share her enthusiasm for the subject. She therefore invites you to an illustrated talk
which covers a broad history of ceramics including contemporary practice and her own work.
Interested members may like to have a look at her website which has examples of her work and
that of past pupils. Elaine also suggests that members bring along a favourite ceramic object which
could be discussed within the group.
