On Masks, Sculptures by Teresa Hunyadi

August 11th - 24th (Open Tuesdays to Saturdays 11am to 5pm) 

Teresa Hunyadi is a young sculptor whose work, primarily working with the material wood, is finely crafted, figurative, but with surprising twists and titles, which give the pieces profound meanings. She is originally from Austria, and studied Art, Design and Art Education at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna from 2010–2015. She followed this by six month in Japan, studying at the Institute for Sculpture, Joshibi University in Sagamihara. From 2015 to date, Teresa has been travelling for solo and group exhibitions abroad, whilst living in Edinburgh. She works here, and is a member at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. 

Her work has been exhibited in Japan, Austria, France, and Scotland. This year in Paisley (May–June), Caol Ruadh Sculpture Park Argyll (June–Sept) and The Scottish Arts Club is proud to host her exhibition during our ClubFest during Edinburgh Festival, from 11th – 24th August.

Jay Cameron, Musical Theatre Showcase

Composer and Lyricist Jay Cameron showcases a collection of his musical theatre songs, including a complete concert version of his musical ‘A Gentleman’s Game’ which was performed at last year’s Fringe Festival, as well as songs from numerous other projects he has pursued in the last year.  Jay will discuss his creative process and will also perform music by his greatest influences, including the works of Stephen Sondheim and Dave Malloy.  Featuring astonishing young vocalists and stripped instrumentation, all performed in the bare bones ambience of the Scottish Arts Club art studio, this intimate and insightful performance is not be missed.

Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop MSP, Canadian High Commissioner Janice Charette and Canadian Consul John Rafferty will be attending our special ClubFest Reception on Sunday 13th August. There will be a selection of music performed by Ron Davis’ SymphRONica  & Daniela Nardi, together with poetry presented by Canadian Poet Laureate George Elliott Clarke.

The group comprises six incredible young musicians and offers them the opportunity to gain experience of touring and enhance their performance skills. The Scottish Arts Club's eighth Fringe-In-A-Day preview of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world's biggest annual celebration of comedy, drama, song, music, dance and fun, will be held at the Club on Thursday, August 3rd from 2:30 to 11 pm. More than 20 acts will provide a taster and set the mood for the Fringe itself, which officially opens the following day.  

Performances will  take place in the Dining Room, the Club Room and the top floor Studio.

A £10-per-person admission charge at the Club entrance will be valid for the whole day. Lunch will be served as usual in the dining room before it is converted into a theatre, and snacks, sandwiches and refreshments will be available from the Bar. 

Come and enjoy a day, and evening, to remember.
